Benefits of Fermented Foods

No, it's not spoiled.  It contains beneficial probiotics that will help you be healthy.
Why?  You Ask:

1: Increased Gut Flora  Fermented foods strengthen digestion for better elimination of toxic waste through the bowels.  Get clean from the inside out.

2: Clearer, Smarter, Sharper Thinking Mind    Any dysfunction of the brain is usually connected to what's going on in the digestive system.  Many highly-regarded healers have cured mental problems through adressing the gut.  It is well established that the gut serves as our second brain.

3: Massively Boost and Heal your Immune System  If the bad bacteria overwhelm the friendly bacteria, the mal-digested food particles and fungus start to spread throughout the body.  This is often called "Leaky Gut Syndrome".  This sets off a firestorm of inflammation, which can lead to autoimmune disorders including Addison's Disease, Celiac, Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Type 1 Diabeter, Lupus, IBS, Etc.

4: Detox  Fermented foods are some of the most potent detoxifiers.  They attack, quarantine and neutralize toxins from our food, environment and pathogenic organisms.  They are capable of drawing our a wide range of Heavy Metals in the body.  The benificial bacteria grab hold of mercury, lead, aluminum, arsenate and many other toxins holding on to them until they're removed through the stool.

5: Beautify Skin  When you decrease the toxic load and the bad bacterial load, this alleviates pressure on the body to do other things.  Connective tissue is able to repair and heal acne, psoriasis, eczema and other chronic skin conditions usally clear up.  and the beautiful sibtle coloring in the face radiates from inner health.

6: Essential for Nutrition  If you eat one meal with fermented foods every day, your gut will be domiated by beneficial probiotic species of microbes and they will start to build and make all kinds of essential nutrients like B12, vitamin B6, vitamin K2, and biotin.  The microorganisms in fermented foods help us make and absorb vitamins and nutriends, especially the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K

7: Biological enrichment of Protein, Essential Amino Acids, Essential Fatty Acids and Vitamins.  As we ferment the vegetables, we break down their cellulose structure, and they become more nourishing and mineral dense.  The protein structure of foods is unraveled through fermentation, and becomes much easier to digest.  The amount of bioavailable vitamin C in fermented foods is 20 times higher than in the same helping of fresh, raw foods.

8: Enzymes  Fermented foods are high sources of potassium and enzymes.  Many people link potassium deficiency to dark circles under the eyes, early senility, chronic fatigue, high blood pressure, arterial and heart problems, arthritis, kidney stones, irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn's disease.  Signs of potassium deficiency include fatigue, achy bones and muscles, tired eyes, itchy eyes, dry scalp and brittle hair, and lack of mental alertness.  Fermentation gives you the digestive enzymes needed to absorb the nutrients in your food.  You won't need as many supplements and vitamins because you'll be absorbing more of the live nutrients in your food.

9: Aid Weight Loss and helps Balance Insulin in Deabetics.  Fermented foods are stabilizing for blood sugar, which means two things.  First, they will balance appetite, leaving you feeling more satiated and less hungry.  And secondly, they create an even and steady release of insulin so the body doesn't store fat.  For diabetics the carbohydrates i lactic acid-fermented foods have been broken down or "pre-digested". As a result, they do not place an extra burden on the pancreas, unlike ordinary carbs.

10: pH Balance  Acetic acid and acid/alkalizing fermentations bring the  blood and vital fluids back to a correct hydrogen level of pH 7.35 to 7.4

Journey to Balance

I make no secret of the fact that I'm 58 years old.  I've been a seamstress by profession most of my adult life and have done a lot  of sitting.  5 years ago when we closed our retail store I was suddenly on a crossroads in life and spent another 3 years trying to decide what I wanted to be and whether I wanted a new career.  My husband was retired and we accepted a call for what I lovingly call a "Fair Weather Mission".  We serve as camp host Service Missionaries at a girls camp for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  I can't think of anywhere I would rather be.  We are on duty from May 1st to the end of September and even then are not required to be there all the time.  Another couple splits our responsibilities.  We began our 4th year last week.

I wanted to be able to work hard on our mission as we took care of 15 acres of the most beautiful mountain land on earth.  I soon had to accept the reality that I am not young, nor am I strong and my knees hurt almost continually from digging, raking, weeding, carrying rocks and pruning trees.  Many afternoons would find me splashed out in the lawn chair unable to move. Something had to change if I was going to last.

About a year ago I had a healing crisis where things felt like they were falling apart when in fact, they were cleansing, detoxing and I was being reborn.  I avoided gluten and dairy.  I started ingesting probiotics.  Not in the "I take them like I do my vitamins" but I looked for ways to get lots of them into my diet, every day, multiple times a day in the way of sauerkraut, Kimchee, Kombucha and other fermented foods.  I love bread but can't tolerate what is on the store shelves but I was introduced to "sprouted" bread and even though I have to be careful, I can enjoy without paying the price.  Next, came Bone Broth.  I love a mug of something warm in the morning and just before bed.  i now feed my body real food 90% of the time so it can handle the 10% to detox my indulgences. With my newfound control of my time I was able to research and learn.  For years I had battled chronic severe indigestion, sinus problems, and body pain.  I had previously discovered that when I ate a certain way and avoided certain foods that I definitely felt better but because my self control is weak as water I couldn't  overcome my misery for very long.

I read this cute meme awhile back and  completely agreed that my running days, if I ever had them were clearly over.  However, as I have associated with friends and clients I saw an overwhelming repeating circumstance that once we quit actively engaging our life in the direction of health and balance we lose our ability to do the things that we love.  Walking becomes burdensome and many end up sitting in front of the TV instead of enjoying life and people.

Once I decided to choose to be active, the rest kind of fell into place.  I guess my time is now.  When is your time?  There's success in numbers.  Heart Mind and Soul
